New Delhi. star cyclist of india Ronaldo Singh (Ronaldo Singh) broke his own national record and made it to the semi-finals of the Asian Track Cycling Championship. Ronaldo broke the 10-second barrier to set a new national record in the 200m flying time trial in the quarter-finals of the men’s elite sprint race on the fourth day of the tournament. However, apart from him, Tuesday was a disappointing day for other Indian cyclists.
Earlier on the third day, world junior champion and Asian record holder Ronaldo Singh, who won the country’s first international medal in the one kilometer time trial event, clocked 9.94 seconds in the 200m flying time trial. Ronaldo had earlier clocked 10.168 seconds at the UCI Track Cycling Nations Cup in St Petersburg, Russia in July 2021.
He defeated Korea’s Ji One Park in two consecutive sprint races. Now in the semi-finals, he will face the challenge of Andrey Chuge of Kazakhstan. Ronaldo said, ‘Tomorrow (Wednesday) is a big day for me as I will challenge in one of my favorite event, I am ready to give my best to win a medal for India. This will also let me know about my preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
On the fourth day of the competition, however, none of the Indian cyclists reached the podium (top three positions) in the six finals. Indian rider Esso once again failed to win his quarterfinal event of the men’s sprint. Losing to Chuge remained empty handed in this tournament. Harshavir Singh Sekhon gave a good fight to Korea’s rivals Euro Kim and Japan’s Naoki Kojima in the 30,000m race but finished fourth with 43 points.
Junior cyclist Himanshi Singh finished second in the 7.5 km scratch race, but was later disqualified on grounds of dangerous riding. India is at fifth position in the overall points table with two gold, five silver and 13 bronze.
