CSA T20 League: The Johannesburg franchise of Chennai Super Kings, one of the most successful IPL teams, on Sunday praised former South African captain Faf du Plessis. The franchise said that CSA will play a key role in the opening phase of the T20 league as one of the ‘marquee’ players.
Du Plessis was part of the Chennai Super Kings from 2011 to 2021 except in the years 2016 and 2017 in the Indian Premier League and was recently included in the team by the Johannesburg franchise. However, he was not a part of the team in the last IPL i.e. IPL held in the year 2022. He was bought by the team of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Mega Auction.

CSK was looking for opportunities
CSK CEO KS Viswanathan said in a statement that ‘Faf has been the backbone of Chennai Super Kings for the last 10 years. He was one of the most consistent performers for our team. We could not buy him in the IPL 2022 auction. But we were looking for an opportunity and we got it in this CSA T20 league.
Management is happy to make Faf a part of Super Kings again
“We are delighted that Faf is back in the Super Kings family. This will be a great opportunity for Faf to come back to perform as well as he did for CSK. He further said, ‘His experience as a player and captain of South Africa will be very important considering the circumstances. I am sure we will have a better future with him in the team.
CSA T20 league will be played next year
The initial phase of the CSA T20 League will be played in January-February 2023. All the six franchises of the tournament have been bought by the existing teams of IPL. Apart from CSK, teams from Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals will play in it.
