French Open Badminton: Kidambi Srikanth beats Lakshya Sen in second round, Sameer Verma reverses

Paris. India’s Kidambi Srikanth defeated compatriot Lakshya Sen to enter the second round of the French Open Super 750 badminton tournament. On the other hand, Sameer Verma made it to the second round by registering an unexpected win over Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia. This was the second clash of the career between the two top Indian shuttlers. Sen lost the last match for the bronze medal in the semi-finals of the 2021 World Championships to his senior compatriot. World Championship 2021 silver medalist Srikanth defeated Sen 21-18, 21-18 in 46 minutes.

Srikanth will now face the winner of the match between Rasmus Gemke of Denmark and N Anguyen of Ireland. On the other hand, unseeded Indian Sameer Verma defeated world’s sixth seed Anthony 21-15, 21-23, 22-20 in a tight match that lasted one hour and 17 minutes. He also avenged his loss to the same opponent at the Swiss Open in March. Now the record of both against each other has become 2-2.

HS Prannoy also wins with Sameer Verma
Sameer Verma will now face Thailand’s Kunlavut Viditsarn. HS Prannoy also made it to the second round by defeating Leeu Daren of Malaysia. Prannoy defeated the lower ranked opponent 21-16, 16-21, 21-16. Now he will face China’s Lu Guang Xu. In men’s doubles, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila lost 15-21, 16-21 to fifth seed Indonesian Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Ryan Ardiant.

Sameer surprises sixth seed
Sameer Verma sealed his place in the second round with a win over Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. Sameer easily won the first game 21-15 against the Indonesian player. However, after that Ginting made a tremendous comeback in the second game and won the game 23-21. In the third game, World No-31 Sameer once again showed his mettle and won the game and match from 22-20.
