Bhubaneswar. Indian men’s hockey team coach Graham Reid wants his team to cut down on defense and attack more in their match against New Zealand in the second leg of the FIH Pro League here on Friday. India began their campaign in the new season with a 4-3 win against New Zealand on 28 October, while losing 2-3 to Spain in the second match.
Reid, after seeing the defence in the first two games, said that the team management has worked out a strategy to improve their game in the matches to be held later this week.
We missed many chances against Spain: Coach
Reid said before the match against New Zealand, “We will try to dominate more. We had missed many opportunities. Although I was happy with the way I defended against Spain, we let ourselves down on several crucial occasions which made us make two or three mistakes and that cost us a lot.
He wants the players to maintain the same energy throughout the match rather than in pieces. Reid said, “When it comes to fitness, we are very good at it. We have done some agility exercises this week and the entire team is top in fitness levels.
We have to maintain the energy throughout the match: Coach
The coach said, “But the mental aspect works in maintaining it throughout the match that we do not dominate in pieces. This will be our focus this week.” Captain Harmanpreet said that the team has worked on its weak sides during the practice session. He said, “We have worked on some things depending on our performance in the last matches, considering the need.”
