Shankar says, “Even before I was born, the family members used to work as laborers. We did not have any other means of earning. I also started helping them, but I felt that I could get something from sports. I studied in seventh grade. I started playing Kabaddi from there itself. After that I started going to Kabaddi Academy located in the village itself and my journey started from here.”

Shankar played the final of the Senior National Kabaddi Championship with Maharashtra. This was a big achievement for Maharashtra under the captaincy of 24-year-old Shankar. After this performance, he was expected to be sold in PKL.

He told, “I was in the field when the PKL auction was going on and I had switched off my phone. In the evening when I turned on the phone, I came to know that Gujarat has bought me. Everyone was very happy and I was also happy. It was that I got the fruits of my hard work.”
