Spain beat India 3-2 in Pro Hockey League, next match against New Zealand again

Bhubaneswar. The Indian men’s team suffered a 2-3 defeat at the hands of Spain in their second match of the FIH Pro Hockey League here on Sunday. Eduard de Ignacio Simo (16th) and Mark Miralles (26th) gave Spain a 2-0 lead but India leveled with goals from captain Harmanpreet Singh (30th) and Abhishek (54th).

However, the Indian defense line was shattered in the last moments, which Spain took advantage of. For him, Mark Rainey scored in the 56th minute which proved decisive in the end.

Let us inform that India finished third in the last FIH Pro League season, the Indian forward team was not completely successful in penetrating the Spanish defence. Spain took the lead after a goalless first quarter. Veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh foiled a penalty corner from Spain but could not get the ball out of his danger zone. Eduard de Ignacio-Simo took advantage of this and scored the goal.

After trailing, the team scored two goals but could not save the defeat.
Spain added to India’s trouble when Mark Miralles’ drive from the penalty corner proved to be very good for Sreejesh. After trailing by two goals, the Indian team showed momentum in the game and captain Harmanpreet Singh’s goal narrowed the gap. After a goalless third quarter, India showed a target in the final quarter and also hit the team’s second goal. However, Ryan helped Spain take the lead with his strike in just four minutes from the final hooter.

India will next face New Zealand on November 4. Earlier in the match, the Indian team had registered a 4-3 win over New Zealand on Friday.
