T20 World Cup 2022: Just before the T20 World Cup, the Zimbabwe cricket team has suffered a setback. Now in the global event to be held in Australia, there will be no person to look after the batting department of this African team. Lance Klusener, the all-rounder of his time, has resigned as the batting coach of the Zimbabwe senior team. Zimbabwe will start their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland in Group B of the tournament’s first round in Hobart. Just ten days before this, Klusener resigned and put Zimbabwe’s cricket team on the backfoot. Zimbabwe Cricket has confirmed Klusener is stepping down as batting coach on Friday.

Klusener and Zimbabwe have been together for 6 months

Klusener joined the Zimbabwe senior team as batting coach in March this year. Earlier, he had worked in the same position between 2016 and 2018. Last month, he was appointed as the new coach of Morrisville SAMP Army in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

Zimbabwe thanks Klusener

Giving farewell to the former South African all-rounder, Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givmor Makoney said, “We are grateful to Lance, he has contributed immensely. He helped us a lot in qualifying for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Unfortunately, Due to his pressing commitments elsewhere, he could not stay with us on a full-time basis and we have agreed to terminate his contract keeping in view the interests of both the parties. We wish him the best of luck.”

Zimbabwe’s schedule in T20 World Cup

Zimbabwe will face Ireland on October 17, after which they will face two-time T20 World Cup champions West Indies on October 19 and will take on Scotland on October 21. Before the tournament, Zimbabwe will face 2022 Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka and Namibia in warm-up matches in Melbourne on October 10 and 13, respectively. Let us tell you that the team led by Craig Ervine had qualified for the T20 World Cup without losing at home in July this year.
