Zomato withdraws Hrithik Roshan’s ad after protests, says ‘Apologize’

Hrithik Roshan Food delivery company Zomato is withdrawing its ad after controversy erupted over the advertisement of (Hrithik Roshan). The company said, ‘We sincerely apologize, as it was never intended to hurt the faith and sentiments of anyone here.’

According to media reports, the priests of the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh had objected to the advertisement of the online food delivery firm, in which Hrithik Roshan is saying that he felt like ordering a ‘thali’ in Ujjain, so he did ‘ Mahakal’ ordered.

Priests accuse advertisement of hurting Hindu sentiments
The priests of the Mahakaleshwar temple claimed that the advertisement had hurt Hindu sentiments and demanded the food company to withdraw it, saying they had also approached Ujjain Collector Ashish Singh, who is the chairman of the Mahakal Mandir Trust and the company Action has been sought against.

Company Zomato clarified about the advertisement
The company has said in its statement that the advertisement is about the ‘Thali’ in ‘Mahakal Restaurant’ and not the revered Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple.’ The company further said, ‘The video is part of their pan-India campaign, for which we have identified the top local restaurants and their special dishes based on popularity in each city.’

Home Minister asked to investigate the matter
The company further said in the statement, ‘Mahakal Restaurant is one of our partners in Ujjain and thali is included in its menu.’ Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that he has directed the police to investigate the matter and said, “Prima facie, the advertisement video being circulated on social media appears to be morphed.” I have asked the superintendent of police of Ujjain to check the genuineness of the video and report to me, so that action can be initiated against the culprits.
